Celebrity life milestones, national and international sports events, and public safety updates led social media conversations in the Philippines in May 2026, according to data released by research firm Capstone-Intel Corporation.
The social listening report tracked public Facebook data from May 1 to 31, 2026, revealing that content driving the highest user engagement focused on personal triumphs, regional pride, and practical daily utility.
Ella Kristina Domingo, Director of Capstone Intel Research and Publications., noted that Facebook metrics in the country peak when content addresses core human emotions or directly alters daily schedules.
“The conversations we are seeing online become highly personal because they reflect the exact milestones, struggles, or changes that Filipino families experience or navigate every single day,” Domingo said. “Whether it is celebrating a miracle pregnancy, rallying behind local athletes, or tracking a heat index advisory, users gravitate toward content that gives them an immediate, relatable reason to communicate with their own digital circles.”
Actress and digital creator Alex Gonzaga topped the month’s metrics by a wide margin following her pregnancy announcement. Her post sharing a natural pregnancy after nearly six years of marriage, three miscarriages, and prior preparations for in vitro fertilization (IVF) generated 5,478,318 reactions, 312,830 comments, and 549,774 shares. “Love” reactions comprised 78.1 percent of the total response, making her name the highest-performing keyword of the month with an overall Engagement Score (ES) of 1,988,271.6 across 673 related posts.
Sports topics secured the second and third spots. The “NBA Playoffs” accumulated 2,468 posts and an Engagement Score of 509,047.3. The topic’s top-performing content was a throwback video on the NBA’s official page featuring a young Bronny James ahead of a Los Angeles Lakers matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder, which garnered 139,038 reactions.
Locally, the 2026 “Palarong Pambansa” recorded the highest volume of individual posts at 5,713, yielding an Engagement Score of 381,630.2. High-engaging items included GMA News’ coverage of the opening ceremonies at the Agusan del Sur Sports Complex and regional sports updates, notably CALABARZON defeating Davao in the high school boys’ basketball division.
Public safety updates regarding the “heat index” generated 5,079 posts and an Engagement Score of 157,315.2. Media advisories regarding dangerous temperatures, such as a CDN Digital report warning of a 42°C heat index in Cebu, drew high user engagement, with 60 percent of the reactions registered as “Sad.” In contrast, a policy update from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa allowing flexible attire for students during final exams due to the extreme weather garnered 74.6 percent “Love” reactions.
Rounding out the top five was the “Aurora Music Festival” with 477 posts and an Engagement Score of 92,416.6. Engagement for the event was heavily accelerated by a casual behind-the-scenes promotional post from the P-pop group SB19, which alone generated 139,085 reactions and 24,785 comments.
According to Capstone-Intel, the data indicates that public engagement succeeds when it builds on community empathy, structural flexibility, and shared regional or pop-culture pride.
